The lives of Urbane and Shirley crossed paths in Temple Texas where they both lived and worked. Although Urbane grew up in the Temple area, he had spent 2 years in Alaska serving in the Army. Shirley grew up in El Campo Texas but moved to Pampa Texas after High School to be a telephone operator for the phone company. She had recently transferred to Temple. A friend introduced them and they went on their first date. As they say the rest is history
On June 8th, 1958, two lives were joined in Holy Matrimony in El Campo, TX at the Assembly of God church where Shirley and her mom and dad, Harry and Marie Miller attended. Urbane donned a white dress coat with a black bow tie and Shirley a beautiful white wedding gown with lace sleeves. They exchanged vows pledging they would honor and cherish each other the rest of their lives. It is a blessed day this June 8th, 2008 that we celebrate 50 years of marriage.
Many of you are close friends and relatives who have been separated by time and distance over these many years. We trust this site will have sparked a good memory and well wishes for many more years of wedding bliss. The official anniversary celebration will be July 12th at the Miller / Horton family reunion which will take place at Brackenridge Plantation Park in Edna, Texas. Many take their campers out early and others just drive out on the day of the Reunion for the gathering around 10 AM with a traditional meal at Noon. Hopefully we can post with some pics of the anniversary reception.
This is actually a surprise in the making as we want to send mom and dad on a special 50th Anniversary vacation. We hope to send them on a memorable trip and they can just relax. We hope you can help us send them off and on their way by the time we reach July 12th to someplace they would not normally go. Hey, maybe dad will take mom to Alaska and see some of the places he lived and visited over 50 years ago. Dad took hundreds of 35 mm slides while in Alaska. They will appreciate whatever you can do to make new memories.
We are so blessed to be able to share this momentous occasion with friends and family, both past and present memories and more importantly reflect on the truly important things in life. In reality, life is about our experiences and good memories are a gift. We encourage you to send a card and mention a special memory or experience with mom and dad. It is a great treasure to have family and friends whom we can share this 50th Anniversary. Thank you for visiting this Anniversary Wish. We appreciate you helping mom and dad celebrate this marked day in their lives together by whatever expression you choose. They will appreciate it more than you will ever know.
